General
OptiPDF is a free, browser-based PDF toolkit that lets you merge, split, compress, convert, and edit PDF files without any software installation. Everything runs directly inside your browser — no files are ever uploaded to our servers.
Yes, completely free. There are no hidden charges, no subscription plans, no watermarks, and no file size limits tied to payments. All 11 tools are available to everyone at no cost.
No account required. You can start using any tool immediately without signing up or providing an email address.
OptiPDF works on all modern browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and Brave. We recommend using the latest version of Chrome or Firefox for the best experience.
Privacy & Security
Your files are completely safe. All PDF processing happens using JavaScript in your browser — nothing is ever sent to our servers. We literally cannot see your files even if we wanted to. When you close the tab, your data is gone.
No. We never store files, metadata, or any history of your PDF operations. Every session is isolated and discarded when you close the browser tab. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Yes. Because everything is processed locally on your machine and never transmitted, OptiPDF is appropriate even for confidential and sensitive documents. However, for classified or legally privileged documents, please assess the security requirements of your organization independently.
Tools & Features
We currently offer 11 tools: Merge PDF, Split PDF, Compress PDF, JPG to PDF, PDF to JPG, PDF to Word, Word to PDF, PDF to PowerPoint, PowerPoint to PDF, Excel to PDF, and Edit PDF. We continually add new tools.
There is no server-imposed file size limit since processing happens locally. However, very large files (>500 MB) may be slow depending on your device's RAM and CPU speed. For most typical PDF tasks, any modern device handles files of any size encountered in normal use.
The Edit PDF tool lets you open any PDF and add text, freehand drawings, shapes (lines, rectangles, ellipses), and images directly on top of the pages. You can style text (font, size, bold, italic, color), drag annotations to reposition them, and click "Save Changes" to download the annotated PDF — all without leaving your browser.
Because OptiPDF converts documents entirely in the browser without Office software, complex layouts, custom fonts, and advanced formatting may not be preserved perfectly. For pixel-perfect conversion of complex Office documents, we recommend using Microsoft Word's built-in "Export to PDF" or Adobe Acrobat, which have access to the full Office rendering engine.
Converting a PDF to an editable PowerPoint requires complex layout analysis to detect slide regions, images, and text blocks — this is not yet feasible at quality standards we're happy with entirely client-side. We're working on it and it will be available in a future update.
Technical
Try these steps: (1) Hard-refresh the page with Ctrl+Shift+R. (2) Clear your browser cache. (3) Try a different browser (Chrome recommended). (4) Make sure your PDF is not password-protected. If the issue persists, contact us with your browser version and the tool you were using.
Currently, OptiPDF requires an internet connection to load the application and its libraries for the first time. Once loaded, the actual PDF processing does not need a server connection. Offline/PWA support is on our roadmap.
Password-protected PDFs are not currently supported. Please remove the password protection first using Adobe Acrobat or another tool before using OptiPDF.
